Dr Stephanie Wynne-Jones is a Lecturer at the Department of Archaeology, University of York. She has worked on the archaeology of the eastern African coast for over 15 years. Stephanie has research interests in urbanism, material culture and the relationship between history and archaeology. These have been pursued through a series of field projects in Kenya and Tanzania, and on the Zanzibar archipelago. From 2009 – 2016 she co-directed major excavations at Songo Mnara, Tanzania which are now being written up. Currently, she is working on urban ecology on Zanzibar from the 7th to the 15th century CE, in collaboration with Aarhus University and on aspects of Co-Production and Community Heritage at Pangani and Kilwa.
Dr. Wynne-Jones will lead on community archaeology and broader cultural identities expressed through the material culture of the region.
